What an awesome way to reconnect with your significant other! Wine by candle light with fruit covered in chocolate fondue (recipe below)?! Yes, please! Marriage is hard y’all. Relationships take work. Once you add kids, job stress, family drama and whatever else life throws at you, sometimes you feel like your ‘love tank’ is on empty and there’s just not much to give back to your partner. For us, a huge challenge was having twins. By the time we got them to sleep each night, we were so exhausted and sleep deprived ourselves it was all we could do to stay up for just 30 more minutes to enjoy the silence!
(Yes, they really used to hold hands like that when they were sleeping!)
There are so many simple ways to have a great night in and spend time focusing on your relationship. One of my favorites is having a romantic night with wine and chocolate fondue. We got a fondue set for our wedding 6 years ago, and to be completely honest, we’ve only used it a handful of times. But each time has been so memorable and important for our relationship. Don’t have a fondue pot?! Don’t despair 🙂 You can make fondue on the stove! And it couldn’t be easier.
For wine and chocolate pairing, I really like going the sparkling route. There is something so classy and elegant about rich dark chocolate and a bubbly sparkling wine. The other reason I like sparkling with chocolate fondue specifically is because sparkling wines pair well with most fruits. So even if you don’t want to dip every bite in chocolate, you can still enjoy just the wine and fruit together.
Some fondue favorites are strawberries, raspberries, marshmallows, graham crackers or vanilla wafers, bananas and apples. I like to lay everything out on some platters (but a plate would do just fine too!).
Once I have them all set out, I add extra chocolate chips. Because, chocolate. Is there such thing as too much?! I don’t think so!
I could eat the whole plate just like this. And it only gets better with wine and fondue!
The fondue is so simple. Here is my quick recipe: 1 bag Ghiradelli bittersweet chocolate, 1/2 C sweetened condensed milk, 1/4 C milk, 1 tsp vanilla and 1/8 tsp or *either* nutmeg or cinnamon. Mix all ingredients on the stove over low heat (or in a fondue pot!), making sure NOT to bring to a boil. Once it is a pot of blended chocolaty goodness, put in a bowl and serve immediately. If it isn’t the consistency you want, add milk 1 TBSP at a time until is it the creaminess you desire!
Now, onto the wine!! This is a Sparkling Rosé called Ruffino. It is an Italian wine and uses a blend of Prosecco and Pinot Noir. You can find it at most grocery stores for between $11-$13, making it very affordable!
(I may have caught the flower on fire shortly after this picture was taken)
The whole experience just screams ‘romance’! I have several of these nights recorded in my wine diary! What do you and your significant other do to reconnect? I’d love to hear your feedback! And you can see all of my wine ramblings by following me on Facebook and Pinterest!
